What Is Shuttle Service?

Shuttle service means we will transfer your household goods from a large tractor-trailer to a smaller truck that can more easily access your residence.

Shuttle service charges are based on the weight of your shipment and help cover:

  • Additional labor to double-handle your items
  • Use of a smaller shuttle truck
  • Out-of-town moves require a rental truck (U-Haul)
  • Extra time is needed to complete the transfer

Common Reasons Shuttle Service May Be Required

  • Low-hanging wires, tree limbs, or structures
  • Narrow roads, steep driveways, or tight turns
  • Obstructions such as roundabouts or fountains
  • Low-clearance bridges or underpasses
  • Apartment or condo complexes with restricted access

What Is Considered a “Reasonable Distance”?

Our moving crew typically expects to park the tractor-trailer within 75 to 100 feet of your residence. In most cases, this is the maximum distance we can safely carry your household items from the truck to your home.

As with most companies in the industry, we offer the first 75 feet free, and then there is a minimal charge for every additional 50 feet. These added charges are called long carry fees.

A shuttle service may be required when the distance from the available parking spot exceeds what is considered reasonable.

Why Not Just Use a Smaller Truck?

While your shipment may not take up an entire tractor-trailer, these trucks can carry three times more than a straight truck at nearly the exact cost.

Using tractor-trailers allows us to operate more efficiently and lower overall customer costs.

We Understand This May Be Frustrating

It’s natural to feel caught off guard by unexpected fees. Please know that shuttle service is not a preferred option for us either. It increases labor, time, liability, and rental expenses.

Unfortunately, some locations make shuttle service unavoidable for the safety and success of your move.
