Frequently Asked Questions
First, a friendly voice that is there to help you make the right move. Next, we book a phone consultation with an Account Manager. This allows us to provide you with the most accurate information and pricing.
This is one of the biggest complaints in the industry, but not at RT Relocation. We estimate on the high-side but always bill on the actual. Many companies will estimate fewer hours to provide a lower quote, but not us! We are not here to underbid just to gain your business; we’re here to offer you a quality moving experience at a fair price —and to be the company you tell your friends and family about.
This will depend on how much you’re moving, the date you want to move, and your new location. We estimate a cost based on the weight of your items, the mileage you will travel, current fuel prices, and a number of additional factors. All of these costs are broken out on your estimate. For example, if you are moving to a big suburban neighborhood in the winter, the move will be less expensive. If you are moving to a city in the summer, with a lot more traffic, people, and no parking areas, the price will increase.
As mentioned above, our long-distance moving estimate details your cost based on a number of factors, the weight being chief among them. That said, as you add more weight, your effective cost per pound will be lower. For example, while an 8,000 lb. move will be more expensive than a 4,000 lb. move, it won’t be twice as expensive. This is standard with all moving companies, and we can discuss this in detail during our initial consultation.
Yes! It doesn’t matter about the size of your living space; whether you need two, three, or more movers, we can help you make the right move. Additionally, many high-end apartment buildings in places like New York City or downtown Stamford will require that your movers furnish a Certificate of Insurance and make an elevator reservation to perform the move. Our general liability policy more than meets the needs of such buildings, and our experienced crews know how to work within the confines of the elevator’s reserved hours.
Yes! We have a dedicated specialized crew that is skilled in packing your belongings in the safest and most efficient way possible.
We charge a flat rate per box packed, with the correct type of box. For examples, A 4.5 cubic ft box is typically used for clothing and linens, which is cheaper than a dishpack box. A dishpack would be used to pack breakables and china. If you’re curious about the cost to have certain items packed just let your estimator know. We always bill based on the actual boxes packed, so if you get a quote for us to pack up your kitchen, but then decide to do it yourself, you will obviously not have to pay for that packing quote.
As of January 1, 2024, we accept Mastercard and Visa only.
Moving Day FAQs
Our typical time frame is 4 to 9.5 hours and we estimate 2/3 of the time to be spent loading the truck and 1/3 of the time for delivery to your new location.
While your move coordinator will provide you with the crews anticipated arrival time, typically we provide a window between 8 AM – 10 AM. The two-hour window is for traffic or any mechanical issues that may arise; however, under typical conditions our crew almost always arrives by about 8:30 AM. We want our crew fresh, ready, and at their best.
Without a doubt! Our crews are professional, personable, and polite. We have the right people on the job because we know that moving is inherently stressful, and our crews are there to mitigate that stress, not add to it. Our professional movers are trusted, trained, licensed and fully insured. Each of our crew members wears the RT Relocation uniform, so rest-assured if they are wearing that uniform, they deserve to be. It guarantees they have the right experience and the right attitude.
At RT Relocation, when we show up to your job, we all understand that it’s not just a 3-bedroom home, it’s YOUR 3-bedroom home! That means we take pride in taking care of your things and we make sure each item arrives in the exact condition it left your home.

Yes! We offer short-term and long-term storage. Our storage facility is armed with surveillance cameras and state-of-the-art security. The building is fire-proof and storm proof to make sure that all of your valuables remain safe.
We assign each customer a number of private storage crates or vaults as we typically call them, and to ensure there is no damage to your belongings, we load and unload the vault for you. This also helps to maximize the space in your vault and allows you to add even more items. Our facility is temperature-controlled, well-maintained, and clean. Time will not affect the condition of your items and they will remain in the same condition as they were brought in.
