What to Expect on Moving Day - Top Tips!

Early to Rise on Moving Day

You’ve planned your move, prepared your new home – and now you’re ready for moving day! We recommend getting a good night’s rest the night before so that you can wake up early, feel fresh and finalize your moving day tasks.

Children and Pets

If possible, it’s a good idea to hire a babysitter to care for your children, preferably at an alternate location. Additionally, pets will need to be put somewhere where they will not get in the way of the moving crew. It would be even better if someone could watch your pets off-site as well (a friend, family member or trusted kennel). This will alleviate the stress of having to look after them during the move, making for a less stressful moving day for all.

Do a Double-Check Before the Movers Come

Make a final, detailed trip through your house to make sure everything is packed and ready to go. Are your closets empty? Did you pack the photo shelf that sat above your desk? Get rid of any clutter or trash that might get in the way of the moving crew. This is also the time to gather your valuables and essentials–and pack up any last-minute items you want to keep with you.

Your Moving Crew

When the big day finally arrives, you can expect your professional RT Relocation moving crew to arrive between 8 AM – 10 AM. RT Relocation will provide a two-hour window to account for any traffic or mechanical issues that may arise; however, under typical conditions, the crew almost always arrives at around 8:30 AM. We want our crew fresh, ready, and at their best for every move.

Once our expertly trained, licensed and insured moving crew arrives at your doorstep, you will see that they are professional, personable, and polite. Each of our crew members wears the RT Relocation uniform, so rest-assured if they are wearing that uniform, they deserve to be. It guarantees they have the right experience and the right attitude. Get The Logistics Together for Moving Day

You may want to get some documents in order for your move. Make lists of the categories of items you own and need to transport. It can be hard to keep track of everything for your move without taking some inventory.

Get your logistics together and prepare for your move the right way. There may be some shipping considerations for some of your larger items, and you should include some of these items in your documents.

Here are some other useful tips that can help make your next move more seamless.

Tips for an Easier Move Process

Label Your Stuff: it’s never a bad idea to add labels on your boxes. This makes them easier to spot when you’re combing through everything in your new location. Even if you don’t expect to find everything the same night after your move, it doesn’t hurt to broadly label some of your stuff so that it’s easier to find later on.

Don’t Plan Other Stuff on Moving Day: moving is stressful enough, you don’t need to plan a million other things to do on the day. Clear your schedule and make sure you’ve freed up enough time to facilitate your move (expect the process to take longer than you anticipated).

Spot Check Each Room of Your Property: whether it’s your bedroom, living room, or basement, make sure every item has been accounted for before you finalize your move.

What to Expect on Moving Day

Ok, so you want to know what to expect on moving day? Well, a typical move can take anywhere from 4 to 9.5 hours and we estimate 2/3 of the time to be spent loading the truck and 1/3 of the time for delivery to your new location.

Once the crew arrives, they will compile a detailed, written inventory of your belongings. The condition of your items will also be assessed and noted on moving day.

If you’ve paid for a full-service move, which includes packing, the movers will get right to work grouping your items together for packing. If, however, you have packed the majority of your belongings they will then get started on packing any furniture or other large, fragile items using the appropriate packing materials, boxes and containers to do so. The safety of your items is of utmost importance, so where necessary, items will be pad wrapped and if previously discussed, any custom-built storage containers (crates) will be used.

Before the movers start carrying items out of your home, they will pad wrap railings, entryways, or any other structures to ensure that no damage occurs. Our team always goes above and beyond to make sure we keep your home and your belongings safe and secure from start to finish.

Next, your items will be strategically loaded onto the truck to ensure they do not shift during transport and arrive safely to your new location. Rest assured; your items will arrive in the exact condition it left your home. It’s our promise to you!

Don’t let moving day become an unnecessary burden. The team at RT Relocation is about to make life easier on you and your family, each step of the way.
